7/26/2007 Update:  GAG Breaking News: The Challengers sign Matt "Big Pappy" Pappas to a one year deal

The Challengers, still trying to put the pieces together, just signed their 6th new player in the last 3 years.  Big Pappas hails from New Jersey or Philly (no one really knows) and carries a hefty 11.3 Ghin Index.  From the looks of it, Big Pappas has never played another course other then Sand Barron’s, but he claims that he watches a lot of golf on TV.  The challengers passed on Brother Klein (similar handicap to BP) and Biazzaro Burr who, sporting a tough 6 handicap, might had been very tough.  We shall see if this move pays off.  Welcome aboard, Big Pappas - the GAG family is happy to have you...

5/07/2007 Update:

The Challengers have replaced 2 time Captain Matt McAndrew with Nishan “Huggy Bear” Vartanian. They hope this change will also bring a change to their losing ways and break up the dynasty.

The GAG would also like to welcome Jimmy Joe Gallagher and Jason Miller to the Challengers squad. Jimmy Joe is a 5 handicap and plays out of the famed Appawamis CC in Rye, New York. He is a fierce competitor on the course and a gentleman off the course. Jason Miller is a 9 handicap and a plays out of the storied Somerset Hills CC in New Jersey. Both players maintain close friendships with former Captain McAndrew. That doesn’t bode well for the Challengers.

1/30/2007 Update:

THE CHAMPIONS HAVE APPOINTED A NEW CAPTAIN TO REPLACE NEW DADDY AND FORMER CAPTAIN, J. MATTHEW CASSIN. Congratulations, Rocko. Good luck to you and your team at Kohler in September… you’ll need it!

9/19/2006 Update:

The 2007 GAG will be held in Kohler, Wisconsin at the American Club from September 13 - 16.

6/29/2006 Update:

Please welcome the newest member of the Challengers Team, Matt "Don’t call me Calvin" Klein. Matt plays out of Quaker Ridge and the Gator Creek Golf Club in Sarasota, FL (which by the way is one of the best tracks out there… naked women on the pin flags). As long as Matt is not afraid of the rain like another new comer from Quaker Ridge, I think he and his 1.6 handicap will add enough fire-power so we can actually have some competition this year at the GAG. Please welcome MK to the show!

9/14/2005 Update:

Theodore "Ted" Post (the 1st) - plays out of venerable Quaker Ridge Golf Club and his game can best be characterized as "Streaky" - he has been known to be David Toms-like when his tempo is good and when his putter gets hot - clearly it is his bestweapon. Typically, Ted plays a unique low fade that really keeps him out of trouble which will be key at a course like Kiawah. Ted’s hobbies include alcohol, women, and golf - which should make for a perfect GAG participant. He also is a fierce competitor who is known to have "blow ups" on the course (similar to our own Nishan V) and is not afraid to drop "F-bombs" when applicable on himself, opponents, and teammates alike. When asked what he will bring to the Challengers team Ted stated, "I’ll add a wealth of experience and stability to this outstanding team. I’ve been the hero and the goat, the leader and the foot soldier. I’ve seen and done it all, and I don’t get rattled." In closing, Ted stated, "Remember --- the Postman always rings twice".

8/08/05 Update:
  • Please welcome the newest member of the GAG:  John "Freddy" Fredericks.  The challengers (Vartanian, Stull, Seitz, McAndrew, and Pisano) are calling this signing one of the most lucrative in the history of the GAG.  John plays an old school style of golf, having learned from the best courses on Long Island as a young lad.  He is currently a 5.4 index playing out of the Creek Club.  When John was asked what he thinks he will bring to the Challengers team he simply said this, "I've always made a total effort, even when the odds seemed entirely against me. I want these guys to know I will never quit trying; I never felt that I didn't have a chance to win and this year at Kiawah will be no different."
